- I should mention that the same type of bayonet with Bowie blade [see my both pictures at the very top] was also used for the Romanian made 7.62mm FPK sniper rifle, weapon which fires the 7.62X54R rimmed cartridge. Orita 09/01/08

- @ SIG_551_SWAT: Superb collection! Unfortunately I don't have the late model with the square pommel which is hard to get here in USA. Orita 09/01/08

- @ jdeleur: Interesting picture showing a pathetic Romanian soldier who serves in the Air Force troops ["Aviatie" - in Romanian language], he probably is missing his darling wife [note the ring in his finger]. He weares the typical blue uniform with the light blue collar patches and he looks like he has scoliosis of the back. The uniform is a disgrace having a button missing and the soldier's leather belt is much too loose. Normally the belt must be very tight, in a way that nobody can twist the belt buckle over. When I served in the Romanian army [1974-76], we were not allowed to have that "peach fuzz" under the nose. The belt buckle is the model made after 1990, it shows 2 crossed swords and a Dutch helmet with a shield in the background [see my photo of this type of belt buckle at the "Dutch helmet" topic]. This type of belt buckle is made of steel or brass, I have both in my collection. The soldier is armed with the 7.62mm Romanian made Kalashnikov that fires the 7.62X39 rimless cartridge. The weapon has the typical Romanian foregrip. The bayonet is attached to the weapon. The weapon safety is on the "Safe" [Up] position. On the right hip attached to the belt there is the pouch which normally holds 2 loaded 30-rounds ribbed box magazines. ---> NOTE: I have a few black and white pictures showing me with the Romanian AKM when I was in army. Since these pictures are going to be published in a large book [about the AK-weapons] which is going to be printed later this year, I don't want to post my pictures here. Orita 09/01/08

Thank you for the reply with information about the picture.
He sure doesn't impress with how he's dressed up.
What i find interessting is the black leather bayonet frog. Never seen this type before.

The book you are talking about will it also contain information about bayonets ?

Jeffrey

- @ jdeleur: There is something else I should mention about that Romanian soldier from the picture posted above: the army coat he weares is too big for him. At the collar [inside] there are 2 wire hooks which get together ["copca" - in Romanian language] but that system must be very tight to the throat, not loose like in the photo and nobody should be able to see what the soldier has under his army coat. It looks like no officer, no NCO and no sergeant inspected this Romanian soldier on that very morning. I was a sergeant in the Romanian army and NOBODY under my command looked like this poor bastard. ---> The book which I mentioned is going to be printed late this year in USA. Since I'm not the author, I have no right to give any details but a section of AK-bayonets is going to be in that book. When that book is going to be on the market, I'll post here all the information about it. Orita 09/02/08

maybe some other words than "pathetic" and "poor bastard" could be used.
we don't know the story behind this man.
interesting frog on this guy. Looks like it has a german style cavalry strap.

- @ virjinz: Yes, you're right about the language used. I apologize. Using this type of language on daily basis it's hard to control yourself. Orita 09/02/08

Some other pics.

These are surely from the 1989 revolution.

- @ jdeleur: Yes, those pictures seem to be taken during the "Romanian Revolution" from December 1989 when many happy participants were killed by so called "friendly fire". Orita 10/05/08
