Size: 21 X 25 cm. 128 pages. ---> 2) "Bayonets of the World" [Vol.I] by Paul Kiesling. Size: 21 X 27 cm. ---> 3) "British & Commonwealth bayonets" by Ian D. Skennerton & Robert Richardson. Size: 21 X 28 cm. 404 pages. Excellent information with black and white pictures about the bayonets made in England, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand and South Africa. ---> 4) "Bayonets - from Janzen's notebook". Size: 22 X 28.5 cm. Good book but unfortunately most of the bayonets listed have no dimension mentioned. ---> 5) "Bayonets" (an illustrated history) by Martin J. Brayley. Size: 30.5 X 23 cm. 256 pages. Very good information with over 500 color and black and white pictures showing bayonets from many countries. => Note: I hope to get soon the French volume "Les Baionnettes Militaires Francaises" by Gerard Adam, Christian Mery and Pierre Renoux. => I also have 3 volumes which have information about some bayonets: ---> A) "Standard Catalog of Military Firearms" (the Collector's Price and Reference Guide with Bayonets) by Phillip Peterson. 4th Edition [the last one]. ---> B) "Civil War Weapons" by Graham Smith. ---> C) "Civil War Collectibles" (Identification and Price Guide) by John F. - Is there a book which describes in detail how a 19th century bayonet [socket or knife model] was manufactured step by step starting with an ugly shaped piece of metal and ending with the beautiful bright and radiant blade??? I would like to read that. Orita 09/14/08

don't know about a book but I believe there is a display at the Brussel's Army Museum that shows it step by step.

- @ Kilian: Bedankt! I do enjoy reading and learning about those French bayones. It is very interesting how the French have measured their socket bayonets, especially giving length dimensions of the top blade flute and of the mortise slot which remains beyond the locking ring [called in French "tenon"]. It is also amazing how the shape of the triangular blade of the French socket bayonet "Modele 1763" remained almost the same for over 70 years. Those 18th and 19th century French socket bayonets were so advanced in design and were widely copied by some other nations. Orita 10/06/08
